Health and wellness is a theme that reaches across our entire agency. In the case of our Housing and Homelessness Department, we believe that secure and stable housing is a primary determinant of an individual’s health and wellbeing. At Dixon Hall, we recognize that basic shelter is only the beginning of addressing the challenges of homelessness. Our multi-disciplinary team works together with our clients and agency partners to provide the supports that will assist our client population in maintaining affordable housing.
Harm Reduction is a central tenet of all the work done at Dixon Hall. Harm reduction employs a non-judgmental approach to substance users and helps them to confront the negative effects associated with use by providing education information and referrals to active users, and supporting people who are in treatment for their addictions by providing one on one guidance and referrals. By ‘reducing harm’, the chances of successfully moving from homelessness to housing are greatly increased.
