Housing, Homelessness

Life has not always been easy for these clients, with too little support and too few caring people. Dixon Hall provides an opportunity to realize goals that may have seemed impossible

Debra Ellis, City of Toronto Homelessness Partnership Initiative

For over two decades Dixon Hall has been providing shelter services in the city of Toronto. While responding to the immediate housing needs of those who use these services, Dixon Hall also works with individuals to assist them to improve their overall quality of life.

Dixon Hall takes a holistic approach to helping our client population by providing shelter along with a host of other supports available through agency programs, and diverse partnerships throughout the city. Through the website, you will learn about our harm reduction strategy, our two shelters, our housing assistance programs, our employment programs, and the Out of the Cold program.

The Harm Reduction Program is central to the support provided in Dixon Hall’s shelters. Harm reduction is a philosophy and practice of respectfully identifying and assisting at risk individuals in the development of all risk reduction strategies.  Employing a non-judgmental attitude while we assist men and women with a range of challenges, from substance misuse and mental health issues to other problematic lifestyle choices which put these individuals at risk, to deal with the harmful impact of these behaviors and move toward healthier lifestyles and higher self esteem. Dixon Hall shelters provide education, information and referrals and encourage program participants as they move toward personal recovery and an improved quality of life.
