Simply call us and we'll review your specific job requirements and work out the details with you, including necessary tools, location, timing, transportation, safety issues and payment details. We'll match you with the right individual(s), for no fee.

You pay the worker(s) directly, at the end of the day or work week, with cash or cheque (or through a third-party payroll service which includes WSIB coverage at a nominal fee). We provide you with:

  • A pool of job-ready workers, matched to your needs
  • Quick dispatch with free TTC transportation to and from the worksite
  • Competitive hourly rates
  • Trained workers (occupational health and safety, workplace legislation and basic WHIMS)
  • No fees or restrictive conditions to hire a worker full-time
  • An opportunity to help someone less fortunate

Our Workers/Clients

We connect you with people who are:

  • Living below the poverty line and/or homeless
  • Highly motivated and want to put their hands to work, rather than ask for a handout
  • Job-ready, pre-screened and have successfully completed our workplace training program
  • Able to communicate verbally in English

As well, many are highly educated with plenty of solid work experience in a wide variety of fields.

How We Help Our Workers/Clients

Our objective is to assist homeless or marginalized men and women to find stable full-time employment. Over the past eight years, we have proven that transitional work is the critical first step for our clients to regain self-esteem and to develop (or redevelop) tangible skills, enabling them to become self-sufficient and reintegrated back into the community, thereby reducing or eliminating their reliance on government assistance. Our support system includes:

  • trained and compassionate employment facilitators who case-manage individuals on their “back-to-work” progress
  • an employment resource centre with computers, job board, workshops and employment information
  • complimentary transit tokens for travel to and from the worksites
  • personalized résumés, cover letters and job-search assistance
  • referrals to critical support services, including shelter, food, clothing, and other assistance programs
  • references for advanced training and skills enhancement
  • providing a mailing address and phone number for use on job applications
  • an outreach communications system that informs homeless and marginally-housed individuals about job opportunities

More About LabourLink

LabourLink is a program of Dixon Hall, and principally funded by the government (Employment Ontario transitioning from Service Canada). Since our inception in February of 1999, we have:

  • Provided hope and guidance to 3,000 individuals who are homeless or marginally housed
  • Connected 940 employers (businesses, residences and non-profit agencies) with the skills of our workers/clients
  • Placed our clients in approximately 150,000 hours of work
  • Matched our clients with approximately 300 full time jobs

Dixon Hall began in 1929 as a soup kitchen during the Great Depression. Our goal today is to help the residents of Downtown East Toronto, including the Regent Park area, and homeless men and women inhabiting the downtown core, make a better future for themselves. We stress a 'hand up' rather than a 'hand-out' approach. As a multi-purpose agency Dixon Hall operates shelters and drop-ins; seniors, children and youth programs; training, education and development; a music school; and a Mandarin outreach program.
