Behavioural Guidelines

The following guidelines are to be followed by LabourLink workers while in and around 7 Labatt Avenue and while on work sites.

LabourLink staff follow employee guidelines set out in Dixon Hall’s orientation manual.

In upholding worker guidelines, staff shall be fair and consistent while acknowledging that action generally needs to be tailored to individuals and circumstances. In some cases, a contract may be required.

Workers must treat each other, staff, neighbours, colleagues, and employers with dignity and respect, regardless of background or level of skill.

  1. Drug trafficking
    Automatic barring from premises for at least one month. Police may be called.
  2. Physical assault (with or without a weapon)
    Automatic barring.
  3. Oppressive discrimination (such discrimination includes--but is not limited to--racial slurs, sexist gestures, inappropriate touching, homophobic comments, and comments or jokes about a person’s appearance).
    Initial incident may either result in a warning or immediate barring. Repeated occurrence will automatically result in a barring.
  4. Use of non-prescription drugs or alcohol
    Automatic barring.
  5. Intentional damage of property
    Worker pays for damaged property through a payment plan. Depending on nature of incident, worker may be barred as well.
  6. Smoking in prohibited areas
    Warning. Repeated occurrence may result in barring.

All serious incidents not covered above will be dealt with by staff on a case-by-case basis.

When a worker is barred, the following will apply:

  1. the worker will be barred from 7 Labatt Avenue;
  2. LabourLink will not place the worker into a job for the duration of the bar;
  3. the worker’s current work arrangement will be reviewed; and
  4. staff at Dixon Hall will be notified of the bar.

The length of each barring will be decided at the time of incident. Staff will discuss and review barrings within a two-week period.

To appeal a barring, the worker may talk personally with the Manager of LabourLink.  If unsatisfied with the results of these discussions, the worker may contact the Executive Director of  Dixon Hall.

We encourage worker input into revisions of our behavioural guidelines.

Last revision: June 20, 2006.
